A two week training course to teach you how to accurately locate, mark, and document underground utilities — including gas, electric, telecom, water, and sewer lines — prior to excavation using electromagnetic (EM) locators. Respond to 811/One-Call locate tickets within required timeframes and mark utility positions per APWA color code standards.
Key Responsibilities
Locate and mark subsurface utilities using EM and GPR equipment
Respond to 811/One-Call tickets, including emergency and priority requests
Mark utility locations per APWA Uniform Color Code standards
Review utility maps, as-builts, and GIS data before locating
Complete field documentation including sketches, photos, GPS data, and ticket closeout
Maintain and calibrate all locating equipment
Communicate findings and limitations to excavators and project teams
Follow all OSHA, traffic control, and company safety protocols
Physical Requirements
Outdoor work in all weather; standing, walking, kneeling for extended periods
Frequent driving between job sites; flexible schedule including on-call rotation
